Max Cahn's most recent works form part of a series of platform paintings. The platform serves as a constant upon which the motif is played out, often left in a state of uncertainty, unsettled over time with physical brush marks, drips and thick wet on wet impastos that are sticky and viscous.

Starting points for the paintings can come from a sub-conscious doodle or rough drawing; however, more often than not they begin straight on the canvas allowing the image to unfold and realise itself.

As the image builds, suggestions of the everyday and familiar are stripped back to the barest point of cognition, becoming easily misconstrued. These uncanny objects, holding their own skewed familiarity, become themselves an unravelling exploration of their own emotional and psychological complexity.
